Northridge Academy High School

Five O Driving School offers behind-the-wheel driving lessons in Northdridge serving the Northridge Academy High School region.

If you are under the age of 18:

  • Step 1. After your 15th birthday, complete the 30-hour online driver education class. A pink certificate of completion will be mailed to you. Register now.
  • Step 2. Go to the DMV to complete the knowledge test (permit test) and receive your instructional permit. You must bring the pink Certificate of Completion from the online course.
  • Step 3. Register below for behind-the-wheel lessons and schedule online. The DMV requires students under 18 to have a minimum of six hours of behind the wheel training with a licensed instructor.
  • Step 4. Practice driving with a parent/guardian for 50 hours (10 at night).
  • Step 5. Once you are at least 16, have completed six hours with an instructor, and held your instructional permit for six months (from the issue date), take the behind the wheel drive test at the DMV.

If you are over the age of 18:

  • Step 1: Go to the DMV to complete the knowledge test (permit test) and receive your instructional permit. 
  • Step 2: Register below for behind-the-wheel lessons and schedule online.
  • Step 3: Take the DMV driving test when ready.

  • CSUN International Student: One 2-Hour Lesson

    Intended for International students who are preparing to take the behind the wheel DMV test to obtain a California driver's license.

  • San Fernando Valley 2-Hour Behind The Wheel Driving Lesson

    This Option Is Great If You:

    • Already met your DMV minimum requirement but want a little extra practice.
    • Have had lessons with another school but would like to transfer to Five O Driving School.
    • Are an International driver over 18 who needs to get a CA driver's license.

    This lesson includes:

    • 2-hour behind-the-wheel lesson with a certified instructor
    • Free pick-up and drop-off

    • An additional 2-hour lesson (8 hours total)
    • Exceeds minimum DMV behind-the-wheel driver's training requirements for drivers under 18

    This is a good option for students who:

    • Have never driven before or otherwise need extra instruction.
    • Have nervous parents who want their student to exceed state minimum requirements (we understand, our kids just learned to drive too). 
    • Would like extra instruction with a specific skill i.e., parking, freeways, canyons.

  • San Fernando Valley Gold Package: Five 2-Hour Lessons

    Reserve lessons in advance!*

    • The Gold Package includes everything in the Silver Package PLUS...
    • An additional 2-hour lesson (10 hours total).

    This is a good option for students who:

    • Have difficulty completing practice hours with a licensed driver over 25 (the DMV requires 50 hours of practice for students under 18).
    • Would like extra instruction with a specific skill or driving in a particular part of town i.e., Santa Clarita, Simi Valley

  • Beyond The Wheel

    This is a 2-hour add-on lesson focused on real-world driving tasks to build confidence with common occurrences on the road. These practical skills don't fit into our standard DMV-focused lessons, but they're essential for building true driving independence.

    Students get hands-on practice with:

    • Safely fueling a vehicle
    • Navigating parking garages and tight lots
    • Using a drive-thru, including lane approach and payment handling (we'll even buy the student a beverage!)

    Please note: this lesson is intended to supplement the 6-hour minimum lesson requirement for students under 18. It can be added from within the student center after an initial package is purchased.

  • DMV Drive Test at Winnetka DMV

    • Use of the Five O Driving School vehicle for the DMV driver's test in Winnetka
    • One 30-minute refresher course before the DMV test appointment
    • Pick up and transportation to and from DMV

    This lesson can be added to any package, but student must take at least two behind-the-wheel lessons with Five O Driving School in order to qualify. Please contact our office and we will schedule the DMV appointment for you.

ONLINE DRIVER EDUCATION
CLASS

Take the 30-hour driver education online. Once you finish the course and receive your Certificate of Completion, you can take the written permit test at the DMV and begin behind-the-wheel driving lessons. Behind-the-wheel lessons are not included with the driver education class.
